OIC warn against HMRC phone scam
Orkney Islands Council have advised folk to ignore scam phone calls purporting to be from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
“Trading Standards are receiving numerous calls from the public at the moment in regard to an automated scam phone call purporting to be from HMRC,” a spokesperson confirmed this morning, Monday.
“The call may originate from a landline or a mobile number. The caller states that a lawsuit is to be taken out against the householder and to press 1 to speak to a case adviser.”
In common with other scams, OIC believe that the intention is to make the householder panic with the intention of requesting a payment to avoid legal action if the phone call continues. They have advised folk to ignore the call and have provide this link for those who would like further information on other HMRC scams.
