Orkney eased to a win in the 52nd Orkney Rugby Sevens this afternoon, winning a hard-fought final against Peebles.

The weather was kind to the popular event — a cold wind but the sun was shining — which attracted a large crowd.

Sixteen sides took to the field on the day — down on the expected 19 — with just two travelling sides — losing finalists Peebles and semi-finalists on their 30th consecutive Orkney Sevens appearance, Grangemouth.

Orkney player of the tournament Stephen MacPhail, Alex Kansour, Matt Jackson and James Linklater saw Orkney retain their title, winning 26-12 to leave the home side and their fans delighted.
