Orkney to bloom in new series of Beechgrove

The latest series of Scotland’s premier gardening programme Beechgrove (formally The Beechgrove Garden) will follow the toil and soil of an Orkney garden.

The series introduced the a new strand ‘Beechgrowers’ last year, which followed the sprouts and doubts of six gardeners across Scotland.

This year the Beechgrowers are back, with six new hopeful horticulturalists, including Orkney based Sanne de Koeijer.

Sanne, who is described as “a student, studying  Culture and Heritage with Gaelic studies. She grew up gardening with her grandparents in the Netherlands, and likes the idea of growing to feed yourself.”

She has a 10 x 5 plot at a local community garden and the series will follow her green fingered venture.

Beechgrove Executive producer Gwyneth Hardy said: “Our Beechgrowers – including Sanne –  are all raring to go this year to share their gardening experiences, tips and occasional disasters.

“There is a big emphasis among this year’s Beechgrowers on growing your own food, but they all promise to have a wealth of gardening stories to share across the board.”

Viewers will be introduced to Sanne in episode two which is due to be aired on April 14.

The new series of Beechgrove will air on Thursday’s at 8.00pm BBC Scotland and will be repeated on Friday at 7.30 on BBC 2, the first episode will go out ion April 7.

The programme will also be available on the BBC iPlayer.
