Orkney to discover 2023 Island Games fate
Orkney will, today, discover if their bid to host the 2023 NatWest International Island Games has been successful.
All 24 member islands of the International Island Games Association (IIGA) are in Gibraltar — host of the Games next year — for the association’s AGM.
A delegation from Orkney, including representatives from the Orkney Island Games Association (OIGA), Orkney Islands Council and EventScotland, are in attendance, where Orkney hope that their bid to host the multi-sport spectacle is given the green light.
Orkney, whose bid was endorsed by the IIGA executive committee following an inspection visit last November, are the only island in the running to host in 2023.
Thirteen sports have already been confirmed for the week-long international event, which would see an estimated 2,000 people arrive in Orkney.
