‘Plan today so you can vote in May’ says OIC

Ahead of the Scottish Parliamentary elections on May 6, Orkney Islands Council is urging voting-aged residents to ensure they are fully registered to vote.

If you are aged 16 or over that day, resident in Scotland and registered to vote, you will be able to take part.

To help  prepare, the Electoral Registration Office has issued a letter to all properties in Orkney listing electors who are currently registered and detailing those who already have a postal vote in place.

If you are not included on that letter you can register to vote between now and April 19 at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

For those who are registered but not listed as a postal voter you can apply to vote by post now by visiting www.orkney-shetland-vjb.co.uk and downloading the application form.

Dennis Stevenson, electoral registration officer for Orkney and Shetland said: “The letter we have issued highlights your opportunity to plan ahead.

“To vote by post you must get your application form to our office by 5pm on April 6, 2021.

“It would be helpful if you could apply as soon as possible or at least well in advance of the deadline.”

If you have any queries about your registration or postal voting, you can contact the Electoral Registration office on 01856 876222 or email ero@orkney.gov.uk
