Plane carries out further sea search

The Coastguard has confirmed that an aircraft has been deployed today, Wednesday, to continue the sea search following the sinking of the Cemfjord.

This latest search follows an empty liferaft being discovered on Monday, some 65 miles east of Duncansby Head.

A Coastguard spokeswoman said this morning: “A fixed-wing aircraft is on scene today from 11am undertaking a search for debris. There is a revised search downwind of the area where the vessel sank, based on the location of the discovery of the vessel’s liferaft.”

She further explained that the search was planned to take around 4-5 hours, but added however that conditions out at sea are poor, as is the visibility in the area, due to the wind and rain.
