Police investigate sex assault claims
Police in Orkney are investigating claims that a candidate standing in the council elections has been allegedly sexually assaulted.
The allegation was made online by Maia Brodie, who is standing for the Scottish Greens in the Stromness and South Isles ward.
Miss Brodie claims that the alleged assailant is an individual linked to Orkney Islands Council, in a social media post made on Thursday.
It has been reported that Police Scotland are following a “positive line of enquiry” after receiving a report of sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman in Orkney.
It is claimed that the alleged incident occurred on Saturday, April 9.
It has also been reported that, due to the ongoing police investigation, Orkney Islands Council have said that they are unable to comment.
