Police Scotland welcomed to Warehouse Buildings

The Warehouse Buildings, Stromness.
The Warehouse Buildings, Stromness.

An open event at the Warehouse Buildings, in Stromness, this week will welcome Police Scotland to the facility.

From 4pm until 7pm, on Thursday, December 8, the public can go along and find out more about how the service will work.

Police Scotland will be occupying office space on the ground floor of Warehouse Buildings and, under the arrangement, will have a dedicated public service counter shared with Orkney Islands Council, where members of the public can go to for information and assistance.

Officers will also be holding bi-weekly police surgeries, where members of the public can call in to speak directly with a police officer.

Orkney Area Inspector Alicen Winston said: “Although we do not have police officers permanently stationed within the Warehouse Buildings, we do have access to police IT systems within the facility, allowing our officers the flexibility to liaise with key partners across Orkney.

“Stromness will continue to have a police presence and this day-to-day interaction and close working relationship will only strengthen the work that we can deliver together to the benefit of our local communities.”

OIC staff will also be hand at the event to provide information about the services on offer in the building. Kirsty Groundwater, development officer for the Stromness Per Mare celebrations, will also be available to chat to local folk about plans to celebrate 200 years since Stromness became a burgh of barony.
