‘Positive Coaching’ accolade for Dounby Primary School
Dounby Primary School has become the first primary school in Orkney to be named as a Positive Coaching School.
The accolade comes from Positive Coaching Scotland, a national organisation which helps create a positive sporting culture within schools and clubs by encouraging effort and learning, improving performance and fostering competition.
Active Schools Orkney has been supporting the school in their achievement, through delivering workshops to parent councils, teachers and kids’ assemblies to introduce the concepts and values of Positive Coaching Scotland
Michael Swanney, Active Schools co-ordinator said: “By involving the whole community such as sport leaders, coaches, parents and teachers, we can encourage a cultural shift in sport in Orkney and inspire young people to reach their potential.
“The programme is only in its second year in Orkney, but the hope is that eventually all schools and clubs will utilise the concepts and theories of the Positive Coaching Scotland models to encourage participation in sport.”
