Red waste bags survey — reminder from OIC
Householders who receive a red bag waste collection are being reminded to return the survey forms handed out by Orkney Islands Council.
The council sent the survey in late May and, ahead of the deadline for responses of August 5, is reminding people to provide information about their current needs for service.
Red bags are offered to households:
• Where there is limited access or storage for wheeled bins (such as terraced properties or flats).
• In rural areas where a house is more than 75 metres from the collection point on the road.
The council may also provide red bags in other exceptional circumstances.
Head of infrastructure and strategic projects, Darren Richardson, said: “Responding will not only ensure you remain on the list if eligible, it will also prevent unnecessary wastage — for example if you prefer to take your waste to our civic amenity sites yourself, you may feel you no longer need this service.”
“With red bags due to be delivered to eligible households in September, surveys forms need to be returned by Monday, August 5. So we are issuing this reminder to say if forms are not received by that date, it will be assumed that the households concerned no longer require a red bag collection and are happy with the alternative arrangements they already have in place.”
People who have already returned survey forms will hear soon about future arrangements.
Anyone in need of extra help, of who has mislaid the survey, is asked to contact the council’s Waste Team on 01856 873535 ext 2705 or email developmentandinfrastructure@orkney.gov.uk
