Road closed following ordnance discovery
A bomb disposal team is due to arrive in Orkney following the discovery of an unexploded World War Two ordnance, close to the Brough of Birsay.
According to police, they were alerted at around 10.30am, today, Thursday. Taking quick action, they closed of the access road to the Brough until further notice.
“Following enquiries with partner agencies, the decision has been made to cordon off the road until the device has been disposed of,” said Acting Inspector David Hall.
Acting Inspector Hall explained that a bomb disposal team are due to arrive tomorrow morning, Friday. He took the opportunity to thank members of the general public for their help in this matter and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
