‘Skills for Sanday’ needs your vote
The Sanday Development Trust is asking the people of Orkney to vote for their Skills for Sanday project this week in a national competition hosted by RBS.
If successful, Skills for Sanday will bring training and learning opportunities to the island, aiming to improve residents’ job prospects and making the isle more economically sustainable.
“This funding would allow us to offer adult education on the island, removing the need for residents to undertake lengthy journeys and overnight stays on the mainland” said Imogen Sawyer, the trust’s projects and grants officer.
“Over 1,060 applications were received so we’re delighted to be shortlisted – but now we need the public to vote and show support for the project to help secure the funds.”
If successful, the trust will be able to employ a learning advisor, buy IT equipment and offer a range of free and subsidised courses such as first aid, hygiene certificates and computer skills to encourage residents to set up their own business and apply for employment.
Skills for Sanday is the only project north of the central belt to be shortlisted.
The online vote closes at noon on Friday, June 19.
