St Magnus Marathon gets underway

Runners from Orkney and beyond have been tackling the St Magnus Marathon, today, Sunday

The marathon — the UK’s most northerly — started outside Kirkwall Town Hall at 10am this morning and finishes a gruelling 26 miles or so later at the Birsay Community Hall.

After the success of last year’s inaugural event, which attracted 120 participants, this year’s race, sponsored by The Orcadian, once again follows the route associated with the journey undertaken by the followers of the titular saint to the ancient Christ’s Kirk in Birsay.
