Stromness Shopping Week is officially underway
The pouring rain which has been a regular feature of the Orkney weather so far this summer held off this morning for the opening of Stromness Shopping Week.
Earlier today 2015 Shopping Week Queen Rachel Wood and her attendants enjoyed a trip on board Stromness Lifeboat before the Royal Party was escorted from the pier to the Town House garden in front of a large crowd.
Stromness Primary School headteacher, Neil McIntosh then officially opened the 67th annual Stromness Shopping Week.
He said it was “an honour and a privilege” to have been asked to open the week-long gala.
After Rachel was crowned by last year’s queen Shannon MacLeod, and the traditional release of the pigeons from the Town House garden, the Royal Party left the pierhead, by horse-drawn carriage, to carry out numerous engagements over the week.
