Suspected drugs seized following Orkney operation
Police have issued further details on the search operations which took place in Orkney earlier this week, saying that a further search also took place yesterday, Wednesday.
Police say that as part of an intelligence led operation, two drug search warrants were executed in the Kirkwall on Tuesday and one on Wednesday.
Various quantities of controlled substances – believed to be cannabis – were seized in addition to approximately ÂŁ600 in cash from three separate addresses in the town.
Analysis of the substances recovered is currently being carried out. Should this prove to be positive reports will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Chief Inspector Eddie Graham said: “Local officers were supported in the operation by police search officers from the Operational Support Unit from Inverness as well as a police drugs dog and handler.
“Illegal drugs can have a damaging affect not only on individuals but entire communities, with incidents of violence and anti-social behaviour all too often linked to substance abuse. In an effort to reduce the harm caused by drug abuse, officers continue to work closely with local communities and our partner agencies.
“These types of operations demonstrate that there are a range of resources at our disposal within Police Scotland despite the fact that we are remote we will continue to access these resources to target those individuals concerned both in the supply and consumption of illegal drugs within Orkney.”
“Intelligence is the life blood of a successful investigation with officers relying on and grateful for the support of the local communities in supplying this valuable information. If anyone has any concerns regarding the abuse of controlled drugs, or anyone who may be involved in their supply, they are urged to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
