Tackling anti-social behaviour in local communities

Police Scotland and partner agencies are continuing to work together under ‘Operation Notebook’ to discourage anti-social behaviour in and around residential properties.

Police Scotland currently works in conjunction with local authorities in the Highlands and Islands – including here in Orkney – to proactively and reactively tackle anti-social behaviour.

The overarching aim of Operation Notebook is “to make people feel and be safer by tackling anti-social behaviour in and around residential properties in our communities.”

Early reporting of anti-social behaviour is encouraged to ensure intervention is in place as soon as possible.

Problematic addresses are then subject to a three stage process to help resolve any issues. If three or more calls or complaints are received by police or council during any one month period a visit will be made by a police officer. If calls continue a joint visit will be made by police and housing officers. If anti-social behaviour continues after the visit, the local chief inspector will issue an anti-social behaviour contract to be signed by the tenant. If this is breached an eviction notice may be served.

All calls regarding anti-social behaviour are reviewed every day with information shared amongst partners to allow for early intervention and joint robust action if necessary, say police.
