Temporary road closure due to Kirkwall house fire

Part of the road between Kirkwall and Kirkwall Airport has been closed this Friday morning, as emergency services deal with a house fire.

According to police, the closure — which is in place on the brae as you leave town on the airport road — is necessary due to smoke.

Diversions are now in place, with drivers travelling east from Kirkwall advised to use Inganess road and turn right just before the farm at Quoydandy. Drivers travelling from the east to Kirkwall can divert through Catty Maggie’s.

It is understood that these diversions will be in place for some time, until the smoke has cleared.
