Thumbs up for North Isles Landscape Partnership scheme
Progress with plans for a North Isles Landscape Partnership Scheme met with the approval of councillors this week, when the initiative was under discussion in the council chamber.
Members of the development and infrastructure committee were considering an outline of the proposed scheme, to enable a first round application to the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Councillors approved of the scheme, after hearing details on how it should progress by Roddy Mackay, head of planning and regulatory services.
Several councillors spoke of the benefits that a similar project – The Scapa Flow Landscape Scheme – had brought to that area of Orkney.
North Isles Councillor Graham Sinclair said that he was very enthusiastic about the scheme, while fellow North Isles Councillor Stephen Clackson said that lessons should be learnt from the Scapa Flow project and was keen to see employment opportunities being part of the promotion work carried out on the North Isles scheme, which could promote the area as a place to live.
