Twelve per cent of surveyed Orkney businesses had no internet connection

Orkney has the highest number of businesses with no internet connection in the Highlands and Islands.

That is according to a study commissioned by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), which surveyed 138 businesses in the county last year.

The survey showed that, out of all nine of the regions involved, Orkney has the highest percentage of businesses with no internet connection (12 per cent) and the lowest.
percentage with a high-speed internet connection (six per cent).

In comparison, the survey showed that only two per cent of the 132 businesses in Shetland involved in the survey had no internet connection with ten per cent reporting they had a high-speed broadband connection.
