Update: man taken to hospital after fall near The Gloup

A rescue operation took place today near The Gloup, in Deerness, where a man was recovered from the scene and transported to Balfour Hospital.

It has been confirmed that a man has been taken to Kirkwall’s Balfour Hospital, after being winched to the top of a cliff near The Gloup, in Deerness, this afternoon.

HM coastguard received a call from the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) just before 1.30pm this afternoon saying that a person had fallen from a cliff near The Gloup.

Coastguard rescue teams from St Margaret’s Hope, Stromness and Kirkwall, Kirkwall RNLI lifeboat, HM Coastguard helicopter from Sumburgh and the Scottish Ambulance Service all attended at the incident.
