Views sought for Islands Plan

Folk in Orkney are being asked to contribute to the National Islands Plan at a series of public events, this summer.

Scottish Government officials will visit Orkney in May and July, as part of a fact-finding mission to investigate the challenges Orcadians face and how these issues could be eased as part of the development of the National Islands Plan.

The first set of consultation events will be held all over the island over three nights:

  • Tuesday, May 7 — Westray, Old Kirk, 7:15pm
  • Wednesday, May 8 — North Ronaldsay Community Centre, 7:15pm
  • Thursday, May 9 — Sanday Heilsa Fjold, 7:15pm

The team will be back in Orkney again during the first week of July to host further meetings on the Mainland, as well as Hoy and Stronsay. There will be over 50 such events across 40 of Scotland’s islands between now and the middle of July.

A Scottish Government spokesman said: “This is a unique and exciting opportunity to shape future policy and strategy and all islanders are asked to get involved.”

If you can’t make it to the events, there is also an online consultation at consult.gov.uk or you can request a hard copy by emailing info@islandsteam.com
