Voting under way in Scottish Youth Parliament election

The online vote for the 2017 Scottish Youth Parliament election opened this morning at 8am.

Orkney has four candidates hoping for election to the Scottish Youth Parliament.

Jack Norquoy, Brooke Mitchell (both Stromness Academy), Calum McArthur and Isla Leslie (Kirkwall Grammar School) are in the running for the two Orkney seats in the parliament.

All young Orcadian between the ages of 12 and 25 are eligible to vote before the poll closes at midnight on Thursday, March 16.

The result of the vote will be declared in the Orkney Islands Council chamber at 4.30pm on Friday, March 17, by Orkney’s Returning Officer Alistair Buchan.

• Voters must enter their Young Scot card number when voting at elections.youngscot.org. Anyone who has lost their card can get a temporary number at the voting sessions taking place at Kirkwall Grammar School and Stromness Academy.
