Whales put on a show

A POD of killer whales, or orca are they are better known these days, created a great deal of interest at the weekend when they were viewed from various locations in Orkney waters.

The pod came into Kirkwall Bay on Sunday morning where they were spotted by Kirkwall Lifeboat crew on exercise.

The pod was also viewed close in at Kirkwall Pier, and later moved around the west side of Orkney, before entering Scapa Flow via Hoy Sound around 8pm.

Minke whales were also spotted in Scapa Flow in the past week.
