Whit’s on this weekend?

Och, aye! It’s almost time for a Burns’ Night shindig, with the bard’s annual birthday celebrations taking place across the weekend. There’s plenty to see and do over the next few days, and we’ve got a few peedie suggestions to get you started.

The team here at The Orcadian would love to hear about what you’re getting up to, this Burns’ Night — whether you’re singing songs, dancing the night away, or have a right good feed.
Please send us your snaps to us on newsroom@orcadian.co.uk or via the Facebook page.

It’s very nearly February already! Where has all that time gone? That means it’s high time we all had a Burns’ Night shindig special gig and, luckily enough, there’s a gig this weekend that might be just the ticket.

For their first Burns’ weekend, The Sound Archive are set to celebrate the bard with a whopper of a gig this Saturday night, with local group Stereo Lobsters all set to headline the event.

Book Signing @ The Orcadian Bookshop, Kirkwall

If your New Year’s resolution was to read more books, then here’s something that might just keep you going through February.

Orkney writer David Barnard, who recently launched his debut novel — Chiff Chaff — will be hosting a book signing at The Orcadian Bookshop, this Saturday morning.

A dark comedy set in 1950s Orkney, Chiff Chaff was recently named The Orcadian’s “book of the month.” This will be a great opportunity pick up your own copy or the perfect gift for a friend, as well as meet the man behind the words.

Sunday Sessions @ the St Ola Hotel, Kirkwall

Whether you’ve had a hard day’s night or you’ve been living the quiet life, it’s hard to resist this regular event at the Ola.

If you fancy a few tunes and a bit of cheer, a front bar session might just be the perfect way to round off your weekend.
