Yacht refloated and escorted to Kirkwall Harbour

Kirkwall Lifeboat was called out to a grounded yacht on Grass Holm, west of Shapinsay, this afternoon.

The yacht, which had been heading for Fair Isle, with two people onboard, had put out a mayday around 1.15pm, with the lifeboat on scene around 30 minutes later.

The yacht had refloated in this time, and there were no reported injuries.

A small leak was discovered on the yacht, and so the lifeboat then escorted the vessel back into Kirkwall Harbour, arriving just after 3pm.
