Kirkwall Bay has been a hive of shipping activity in the last few days.

The giant heavy lifting ship Lone, and the offshore supply vessel Olympic Ares have been in Orkney waters carrying out work at the EMEC Falls of Warness site with the Voith tidal turbine. Pictured alongside the Olympic Ares is the OIC Marine services pilot boat John Rae.

Also in the bay over the weekend, as high winds swept over Orkney, were the Serco NorthLink freight vessel Hildasay, and the oil industry vessel Subsea Viking which uses Hatston as a shore base when not working to the west of Shetland.
