A talk about ‘Silent’
Keith Allardyce, the author of Silent: A portrait of deserted Orkney buildings, is giving a talk in The Orcadian Bookshop this evening, Thursday.
Building on the success of his Found series of books, which featured Orkney beachcombing finds, for Silent Mr Allardyce turned his camera on silent, desolate and run-down buildings around the Orcadian countryside.
Once cosy homes, boisterous schoolrooms and coldly pragmatic wartime installations feature and there is even a “honeymoon cottage”.
All the buildings have stories to tell and in the book Tom Muir weaves the tapestry of words behind the images captured.
The event, in the bookshop’s Albert Street gallery, begins at 7pm.
