Alistair Carmichael promoted to Secretary of State for Scotland

Orkney and Shetland MP Alistair Carmichael has this morning been appointed to the post of Secretary of State for Scotland during a Cabinet reshuffle.

Mr Carmichael was previously the Lib Dem chief whip and replaces his fellow Liberal Democrat Michael Moore in the Cabinet.

MP for Bath, Don Foster, replaces Mr Carmichael as his party’s chief whip.

The Prime Minister announced the appointment of Mr Carmichael on Twitter.
