All schools closed on Friday

OIC1 Orkney Islands Council has announced that, due to the forecast extreme weather, all schools in the county will be closed tomorrow, Friday.

The Met Office has issued an amber alert due to the forecast storm force winds, which, it says, are expected to bring frequent gusts of 70-80 mph with gusts of 90 mph.

OIC Head of Schools Peter Diamond said: “At the moment, the severe winds are predicted to be at full strength in the early morning, when pupils would be travelling to school. Given the forecast, we have decided to close all schools tomorrow.”
