Appeal for information on terrier ‘in extremely bad condition’

The Yorkshire terrier found in Deerness last week had to be put down due to her condition.

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after an elderly Yorkshire terrier was found, in “extremely bad condition”, in Deerness.

The animal welfare charity was alerted to the dog last Thursday, which was extremely underweight and matted and on the Halley Road.

Local inspectior Lara Vickery said: “There is a very real possibility she was abandoned, however we want to understand the circumstances that led to her condition.

“The poor wee girl was also blind, with a number of mammary gland tumours that obviously were causing her distress.

“Unfortunately, following vet advice, she has since been put to sleep due to the extent of her condition.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
