Athlete recognised in parliament
Highlands & Islands MSP, David Stewart, has tabled a motion in the Scottish Parliament acknowledging the achievements of Orkney endurance athlete William Sichel.
At aged 62, William is about to undertake his 100th ultramarathon in Brugg near Zurich this weekend.
Mr Stewart said “This is one amazing man. I understand that he has currently set 181 running records at World, British and Scottish level, including age-group records. His shortest record is an age-group one for 30 miles on the track and his longest is an overall British record for 3100 miles/5000km on the road.
“The achievements of William just have to be recognised and that is why I tabled this motion and also to draw attention to the fact that this weekend he hopes to complete his 100th marathon. I am sure we all wish him well.”
• Further details on William’s latest race features in The Orcadian out on Thursday.
