Bag the Bruck 2012 is taking place this weekend.

This year is the 20th anniversary of the cleanup event, and Environmental Concern Orkney (ECO) is celebrating by producing a new online leaflet about tackling marine litter in Orkney.

The leaflet contains insights into the problem of marine litter, based on the experiences of addressing the issues in Orkney over the last 20 years, along with research on this global problem.

Susan Ferguson, the honorary secretary of ECO, said: “This leaflet is coming out just at the right time, as we think of enjoying Orkney’s beaches more in the light evenings.

“Litter is a problem on our beaches, but we hope this leaflet will help the problem to be addressed at its sources, and also inspire more people to get involved in beach cleanups, especially on the Bag the Bruck 2012 weekend on April 21 and 22.”
