Balfour acute ward closed due to suspected virus
The acute ward at Balfour Hospital is currently closed due to a suspected outbreak of winter vomiting virus.
No patients have been affected but some hospital staff are displaying symptoms.
A statement from NHS Orkney said the ward was closed to admissions as a precautionary measure.
Members of the public have been advised not to visit the ward unless absolutely necessary, and if they have been unwell within the last 48 hours then not to visit at all.
Children under the age of 12 have also been advised not to come into the ward.
NHS Orkney say they have formed an outbreak control team to ensure all appropriate precautions are taken to minimise any risk to patients, visitors and staff.
An update on the situation is expected later today.
