Beef for Orkney schools sourced locally

Following last week’s news that traces of horse DNA were found in a frozen burger from a school in North Lanarkshire, the OIC has confirmed that beef served in Orkney school dinners is sourced locally.

An OIC spokeswoman said: “In light of recent developments, we are following Food Standards Agency guidance to public organisations that provide catering services. No meals have been removed from our menus.

“We source food from reputable suppliers for our catering establishments. For example, all the meat for all school meals comes from Williamsons Butcher. Our key priority is to ensure the food we provide is of good quality and fully traceable.

“We will continue to monitor the current situation in line with FSA advice.”
