BID seeks nominations for board of directors

Nominations are being sought this week, from among Kirkwall’s business community, to form a board of directors for the Kirkwall Business Improvement District (BID).

Nomination letters are being issued today, Monday, to all Kirkwall BID members, requesting nominations for the twelve director posts, which will form the decision-making body which will steer the BID project.

In order to become a director, a person must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Represent and be active as an owner/manager in a property situated within the BID area which is liable for the improvement levy.
  • Have the best interests of Kirkwall Town Centre and the BID company at heart.
  • Volunteer 4-5 hours of your time per month (Chair and Vice Chair – 4 hours per week), but likely to be significantly more during the first operational period of the BID company.
  • Have no previous disqualification from acting as a company director.
  • Have no undischarged bankruptcy.

Every business that pays the levy can nominate someone to be elected onto the new company board and it is possible for BID members to nominate themselves.

With the BID officially commencing on April 1, the appointment of the Board is a key priority and those interested have just a few days to fill in the relevant form and return it, as completed nominations require to be in the hands of the BID manager by Friday, 15 March 2013.

If any Kirkwall BID member HAS NOT received their nomination pack by Wednesday of this week, can they please contact BID Manager Anthea Hume, on 874724, as soon as possible.
