Block placement work on barriers

Work to place blocks on the second and third Churchill Barriers is due to start today, Monday.

According to the OIC, work is planned to start on Barrier No3 and will take place on Monday, March 18, and Tuesday, March 19, with the blocks on Barrier No2 placed the following week – Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26.

A council spokesman said: “These new blocks are in addition to the existing blocks and this work is are part of the ongoing maintenance of the barriers.

“The road will only be closed to traffic during the time when the blocks are actually being lifted, with lifting operations being undertaken outwith peak periods and school travel times.

“Works will also be carried out in such a manner to try and keep delays to a minimum, but there will inevitably be times when delays will be encountered.”
