Braebuster heifer wins big at Christmas prime stock show
A Belgian Blue cross Limousin heifer shown by K. D. Eunson, Braebuster, Deerness, took the Supreme Champion title at Orkney Auction Mart’s Christmas Prime Stock Show, held earlier today, Friday.
The two-year-old heifer was sired by an unregistered Belgian Blue bull bred at Sebay, Tankerness, and the dam is a daughter of Newhouse Colorado.
The reserve supreme title, as well as the title for best steer and best animal opposite sex to the champion was an April-born, Limousin steer shown by R. and J. Johnston, Hewan, Shapinsay. The steer is out of a Limousin cross cow and was sired by the bull, Aimslies Hunter.
Orkney Media Group sponsored the Reserve Champion trophy and co-sponsored the Supreme Champion trophy with Highland Industrial Supplies (HIS), Kirkwall.
The judge for the competition was Bill Cameron, from Burnside, Edingight, Keith.
The competition also saw a prize for the best Young farmers beast presented to George Low, Craighaven, Toab, the trophy for the best pair of prime lambs presented to Charles Copland, Overhouse, Harray and the prize for the best Young Farmer Lamb presented to Inga Kemp, from Greenhall, Deerness.
