CAB take action regarding delivery charge ‘rip-off’

People in Orkney are being ripped off by companies who charge them huge additional costs for deliveries – according to the local Citizens Advice Bureau.

Now the CAB is joining with colleagues across rural Scotland to campaign for fair delivery charges for rural customers. They have launched a survey asking people to report examples of unfair delivery charges, and the offending companies will be named and shamed if they don’t change their ways.

Alison Gunn, manager of Orkney CAB, said: “We’ve found that many companies just refuse to deliver to Orkney at all – or will whack on flat charges of £10, £20 or in some cases up to £80.”

She added: “We think it’s time to take action on this, so we want local people to come forward and report their experience of being fleeced by these companies. Acting together, maybe we can get them to change their ways.

The survey is available online, here, or paper copies can be picked up from the CAB’s Bridge Street office in Kirkwall.

The survey closes on November 30.
