Carmichael calls for heating oil investigation after profits soar

Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael has called on the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to investigate huge profits made by DCC, the energy giant behind Scottish Fuels.

His call comes after the firm saw profits rise 56 per cent, with revenues up £1.8 billion. The company said that the “excellent year” was driven by the particularly cold winter.

Mr Carmichael said: “It is exceptionally disappointing to see this company celebrating in this manner. The huge profit that DCC have made comes at the expense of people who were struggling to pay to heat their homes.

“The Office of Fair Trading absolutely must look again at workings of the fuel market. It is not right that consumers are facing an increase on their bills while energy companies post huge profits.”
