Carmichael re-elected MP for Northern Isles – but only by 817 votes
Alistair Carmichael has been re-elected as MP for Orkney and Shetland, with just 817 votes separating him from the SNP’s Danus Skene.
In 2010, Mr Carmichael had 11,989 votes – was 9,957 ahead of Labour’s Mark Cooper, who received 2,061 votes. The SNP candidate John Mowat had 2,042.
The 2015 general election results are as follows:
- Alistair Carmichael (Liberal Democrat) – 9,407
- Danus Skene – (Scottish National Party) – 8,590
- Donald Cameron (Conservative) – 2,025
- Gerry McGarvey (Labour) – 1,624
- Robert Smith – (UK Independence Party) – 1,082
There were 22, 803 votes cast; 66 per cent turnout and 75 ballots rejected.
