Catriona Price named semi-finalist in young traditional musician awards
Orkney fiddler Catriona Price has been named as one of 12 semi-finalists for this year’s BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2012 Award.
She could be following in the footsteps of the 2011 winner — Kristan Harvey, also from the county.
Having taken up the fiddle at the age of seven, Catriona, 24, was taught by Douglas Montgomery (Saltfishforty, The Chair).
She graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2010 and is currently studying for a Masters Degree at the Royal Academy of Music.
Catriona performs regularly with duo Twelfth Day whose debut album was released in 2010.
The semi-final concert will be held on Saturday, October 1, in Coulter Hall, Coulter, South Lanarkshire at 7.30pm.
Each musician has to play for ten minutes and has to show off their technical skills as well as presentation skills. Six musicians will then be selected to go through to the final at the Celtic Connections festival, Glasgow in February, 2012.
