Your chance to visit British and German warships
A Royal Navy destroyer and a Federal German Navy frigate will be open to the public in Orkney this weekend.
HMS Duncan and FGS Brandenburg met up off the Jutland Bank this week, when sailors from both vessels sprinkled poppies and forget-me-nots on to the waters of the North Sea – one for every man killed during the Battle of Jutland.
HMS Duncan, a Type 45 Daring class destroyer, is the Royal Navy’s newest ship. She is due to arrive at Hatston Pier at 2pm today, Thursday.
The FGS Brandenburg, a general purpose frigate, is due to arrive at Hatston Pier an hour later.
On Saturday, both ships will be open to the public from 10am to 4pm.
Hatston Pier will be closed to traffic from 9am to 5pm that day, but a complimentary shuttle will run from the car parking and marshalling areas, at the top of the pier, down to the main Hatston berth.
Both ships due to leave Orkney on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, four P2000 patrol vessels are due to arrive in Kirkwall today, Thursday, and will be carrying out visits to the North Isles until Sunday.
Four more P2000s are also due in Stromness today and will be visiting the South Isles until Sunday.
