Charity auction of straw to take place at mart

A special charity sale of straw is due to take place at Orkney Auction Mart today, Monday.

The straw has been donated by Gill & Co, from Easter Ross, and will be baled by Bill and Caroline Matheson from the Black Isle. The haulage has been organised by the Orkney branch of the NFUs.

The auction comes after farmers in Orkney have faced a particularly tough year, with many facing heavy setbacks due to the constant downpour of rain seen throughout this year.

Part of the funds raised will go to RSABI, a charity specialising in helping those who have land-based jobs, such as agriculture.
