Charity swimmers to raise money for MND Scotland

Two Orkney women will be braving the chilly waters of Scapa Flow tomorrow afternoon to raise money for motor neurone disease charity MND Scotland.

Lesley Spence and Barbara Balcombe are aiming to swim from Lamb Holm Pier to St Mary’s Pier, a distance of about 1.2km in open water, in around an hour.

They will take the plunge at the Lamb Holm Pier at 2pm where the Kirkwall Town Band will be playing as the ladies jump off the Holm Sailing Club’s newly refurbished Rosebud and begin their big swim.

Spectators can then head to Alfie Flett’s shed in St Mary’s village for refreshments, a raffle and more tunes from the Town Band.
