Cinema set for first live satellite show
The first live link between the Phoenix Cinema and events outside the county is due to take place this evening,
A National Theatre performance of George Bernard Shaw’s Man And Superman, tonight, will be the first live performance screened at the Kirkwall cinema.
Although the cinema has been showing recorded theatre, opera and ballet shows since October 2013, it recently received funding to pay for a new satellite link, which will give people in Orkney the opportunity to view events from across the UK.
Each production is filmed in front of a live audience, with cameras carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema audiences get the ‘best seat in the house’ view of each production. As it is being filmed, the event is then broadcast via satellite, to hundreds of cinemas around the UK.
