Community poll to define John Rae in five words

How do you sum up one of Orkney’s greatest heroes in just five words?

That’s exactly what the John Rae Society is calling on the community to do, the the run-up to a new fundraising campaign.

Dr John Rae, who was born at the Hall of Clestrain in Orphir, discovered the last section of the North West passage and the fate of missing explorer Sir John Franklin.

Now, the society promoting his life and work has launched an online poll, aiming to “capture the spirit” of the legendary explorer himself.
