Company seeks approval for major tidal energy development
Marine energy company MeyGen Limited is seeking permission from the Scottish Government agency Marine Scotland to develop an 86 megawatt (MW) tidal stream project in the Pentland Firth.
The application is for the installation of up to 86 tidal turbines in a deep water channel called the Inner Sound, which lies between the north coast of Caithness and Stroma.
MeyGen has indicated that they have identified a number of harbour facilities for the project, including Lyness, which has been upgraded to serve as a support base for the marine energy sector.
Orkney Islands Council is asking anyone who wishes to comment on this aspect of the development to contact the Council’s Development Management team.
