Copland’s Dock renewables proposals
A new marine renewables support base, at Copland’s Dock, in Stromness, took a step closer this week, with islands councillors recommending the project should be included in the OIC’s works programme for 2011-12.
Subject to a successful application for European Regional Development funding, design work on the pier would start in the short-term, with construction planned for 2012.
The £5.5 million project will be funded by the council’s own reserves and grant funding.
It is anticipated that the new pier will act as a support base, providing berthing for support vessels, with heavy industrial activity taking place at Lyness and Hatston.
