Council leadership to be unveiled later today
Orkney’s new councillors will today decide who from their ranks should head up the council for the next five years.
During two special meetings today councillors will vote on who should take up the three top roles at the local authority – political leader, depute political leader and convener. The chairs and members of the council’s committees and sub-committees will also be decided at the meetings.
The previous council convener, Kirkwall East’s Steven Heddle, announced he will not be standing for the post this time, despite earning the most votes in his ward during local council elections, on Thursday, May 4.
