Councillors back North Isles Landscape Partnership Scheme

Orkney’s North Isles could be set to benefit from a project similar to the hugely successful Scapa Flow Landscape Partnership Scheme.

OIC councillors at today’s meeting of the development and infrastructure committee backed a proposal for a round one bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for an equivalent project for the North Isles.

Committee members also agreed to establish a development officer post, for one year, to co-ordinate the bid which has a deadline of May 31 next year.

If the bid is accepted by the Heritage Lottery Fund it will go forward to a second stage where more detailed proposals are required.

North Isles councillor Stephen Hagan said: “I’ve been to a number of community councils where this was discussed and it was very enthusiastically received.”
